Set your event on a sustainable stage

If, when organizing your event, you want to combine an ecological mission with the unique atmosphere of the city, set your course for Szczecin!

Nature as far as the eye can see, an “iceberg” near the city center, a carpet of purple crocuses by the sea, or the riverside boulevards scented with chocolate? In the heart of West Pomerania, a city pulses with life, blending the energy of urban living with the soothing presence of nature. Szczecin is one of the greenest cities in Poland, offering participants a chance to relax, take a deep breath, and experience the atmosphere of a city that truly breathes.

Code of Sustainable Meetings

Sustainable development in event management is the key to the future. Setting goals such as minimizing CO₂ emissions or collaborating with local suppliers helps create environmentally-friendly events that support local culture. Check out our list of 10 key principles:

  1. Defining sustainable development goals: Set key objectives for the event, such as minimizing CO₂ emissions, reducing waste, or promoting local culture.
  2. Collaboration with local partners: Partner with local service providers who operate in accordance with sustainable development principles.
  3. Check for eco-certifications: Ensure that meeting venues and hotels have the appropriate environmental certifications.
  4. Minimizing CO₂ emissions: Encourage participants to use public transport, city bikes, or carpooling.
  5. Reducing waste: Limit the use of disposable materials, choose reusable tableware, and avoid printing unnecessary materials.
  6. Promoting local culture and products: Collaborate with local catering companies that offer regional dishes made from local ingredients.
  7. Include cultural attractions, such as concerts at the Szczecin Philharmonic, in the event program.
  8. Engaging the local community: Involve local NGOs, residents, and activists in the event organization to enhance its social impact.
  9. Educating participants: Inform participants about the sustainable actions taken and encourage them to actively participate in these initiatives.
  10. Monitoring and reporting: After the event, assess the achievement of the sustainability goals and share the results with participants and partners.

Energy independence is our superpower

The city is actively investing in renewable energy sources – in 2023, it saved 16 million PLN by producing energy from renewable sources and waste incineration at the EcoGenerator. The Water and Sewage Company covers nearly 30% of its energy needs from its own sources, demonstrating real actions toward energy independence.

Szczecin boasts modern infrastructure and experience in organizing eco-themed events, such as international conferences dedicated to green energy. Its location on the border with Germany and proximity to Scandinavia also make it an attractive destination for participants from across Europe, adding an international dimension to events.

Global Destination Sustainability (GDS-Index)

The GDS-Index is an international rating system that supports collaboration and the exchange of best practices. By joining the GDS-Index, cities confirm their commitment to sustainable development. With certification, the tourism and events industry becomes more responsible and environmentally friendly.
